Dr. Jay Granzow is an internationally renowned lymphedema and lipedema surgeon, scholar and educator.  He founded the Lymphedema & Lipedema Center to provide comprehensive and effective treatment to lymphedema and lipedema patients from all over the world.  Dr. Granzow believes that each patient’s lymphedema or lipedema condition is unique and requires truly personalized treatment programs to provide the best possible results for these difficult disorders.  The Center’s mission is to restore and improve the quality of life in patients with lymphedema and lipedema.

Patients from the United States and abroad rely on his expertise to treat their lymphedema and lipedema conditions.  Most patients are referred by other patients, physicians, or therapists.  They travel to see Dr. Granzow because of his expertise, compassion, and ability to understand their complex and difficult illnesses.

Dr. Granzow believes in providing compassionate, patient-centered care.  His philosophy of caring for each patient individually has created life-altering changes in quality of life for his patients.  Patients not only report that they regain their physical mobility and health but they also that they find life more enjoyable and meaningful.

Dr. Granzow believes in the importance of working with therapists and other doctors to optimize the long-term effectiveness of our treatment programs.  As a recognized pioneer in the fields of lymphedema and lipedema, Dr. Granzow focuses on innovation and collaboration with other experts to provide the best treatment available to patients.

For lymphedema patients, Dr. Granzow created the world’s first comprehensive lymphedema treatment system (FLOSM) that successfully integrated lymphedema therapy with multiple types of lymphedema surgery to provide the best treatment available for patients.  He is an accomplished surgeon and performs lymphedema surgeries such as vascularized lymph node transfer (VLNT), lymphaticovenous anastomosis (LVA) and suction assisted protein lipectomy (SAPL).  Patients are carefully matched with the optimum therapy and surgical regimen to best treat their lymphedema.

For lipedema patients, Dr. Granzow’s integrated system for lipedema treatment combines effective therapy and his unique lymphatic sparing LipisuctionSM surgery to provide the best treatment. The LipisuctionSM surgery safely removes the excess fat while protecting the important lymphatic channels to minimize the possibility of lymphedema.  Patients are prescribed with appropriate physical therapy before and after surgical treatment to optimize the treatment results.

Dr. Granzow’s expertise in lymphedema surgery is also crucial in treating lipedema patients who may also suffer from lymphedema.  For these patients, an integration of Dr. Granzow’s FLOSM lymphedema treatment program and LipisuctionSM surgery provides the best treatment.  He uses his extensive knowledge of lymphatic anatomy and careful mapping of the lymphatic channels to maximize protection of these vital structures.

Dr. Granzow has received worldwide recognition for his dedication to lymphedema and lipedema surgery and education.  He received numerous awards from patient communities including the 2016 Best Career Investigator Award, a prestigious honor from the National Lymphedema Network (NLN), for his demonstrated dedication to lymphedema research.

Dr. Granzow is passionate about educating patients, therapists and physicians around the world about lymphedema and lipedema.  He publishes highly regarded scientific articles in leading medical journals, and is also a frequently invited speaker at international conferences such as the Fat Disorders Research Society (FDRS) Conference, National Lymphedema Network (NLN) Conference, Klose Conference, World Congress of Lymphology (WCOL) Conference, the Canadian Lymphedema Framework (CLF) Conference, and the American Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery (ASRM) Conference.   He collaborates closely with physicians and specialists in the United States and abroad to support much needed research in these fields.  He also engages with the patient community to generate and raise awareness to further the understanding of these diseases.

Dr. Granzow graduated from Princeton University with honors in chemical engineering.  Afterward, he attended Tulane Medical School, where he graduated in the top 10% of his class and was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.  Dr. Granzow also received a Master of Public Health degree at Tulane Medical School.  He then completed residencies in Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Southern California and in Plastic Surgery at the University of Miami.

After residency training, Dr. Granzow worked closely with top surgeons around the world in the fields of lymphedema surgery, advanced microsurgery, and aesthetic surgery.  He completed fellowships at the Louisiana State University, and The Royal Melbourne Hospital in Australia.  Dr. Granzow also served as a visiting fellow at the Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Taiwan, Tokyo University Hospital in Japan, and Ghent University Hospital in Belgium.

In his academic capacity, Dr. Granzow has been a Plastic Surgery professor at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) since 2005.  Dr. Granzow currently serves as Associate Professor of Plastic Surgery in the Division of Plastic Surgery at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine and Assistant Chief of Plastic Surgery at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.  He holds Board Certifications both in Plastic Surgery and Head and Neck Surgery.  Dr. Granzow treats lymphedema and lipedema patients in his private practice in the Los Angeles area.
