Amy’s Story

Prior Surgeries attempted elsewhere: Right leg VLNT taken from right neck donor site.

Surgery (Dr. Granzow): Right leg Granzow SAPLSM

Amy lives in the St. Louis area and is a staunch advocate in the lymphedema community. She is an inspirational speaker, writer and athlete. She was born with severe swelling of the entire right side of her body. While most areas improved when she was a baby, her right leg swelling continued to worsen. Growing up, she was called “elephant leg” at school and struggled with worsening swelling. Click here for this story.

Although Amy saw many doctors about her swelling, she was not diagnosed with congenital lymphedema until she was 32 years old. By that time, she had advanced Stage 2 lymphedema of the right leg with severe skin problems. Prior to seeing Dr. Granzow, Amy had two lymphedema surgeries attempted elsewhere without significant improvement. Amy has seen dramatic improvements after Granzow SAPLSM surgery with Dr. Granzow. She was astonished to see her right kneecap for the first time in her life after surgery. Amy actively documents her journey with lymphedema in social media, motivating and educating patients and the community at large. Her non-profit, Ninjas Fighting Lymphedema, helps lymphedema patients with getting compression garments and raises awareness on this debilitating disease.
